TWO new classes are forming, according to Ken Wark, who is professor of cultural and media studies at the New School University, New York. The members of one are producers of "hacks" - in essence any abstraction that can be patented or copyrighted, whether a chemical, software or an intellectual process. The other seeks to monopolise "hacks" as property - which is itself a "hack" - and thus controls the capitalists, who now merely own the means of production of the concrete.

Infuriating and inspiring in turn, A Hacker Manifesto will spawn a thousand theses, and just maybe spawn change.
